What to wear to a ‘insert sport’ viewing party when you don’t know the rules of the game, the teams, the colors or all of the above.
Wanderer. It was fun following the NBA finals. I wasn’t rooting for the Golden State Warriors as much as I was rooting for the man himself – Stephen Curry. Now that that’s over, can we talk about the Women’s World Cup? I remember last year, so many people were invested in following the World Cup matches – lunch breaks at work included watching whatever game was on and extended beyond the usual time, bars were super crowded during game time, my Twitter timeline was basically a realtime feed of each game. Well, now, the women are competing and there isn’t much attention being given to them. I went to a ‘sports’ bar last week to see Nigeria play Australia and none of the over thirty screens was playing the game. I had to request for it to be put up and that really surprised me, I mean it’s a sports bar, no? Anyways, we’re talking fashion, not just sports so let’s get into this. I figure if you’re supporting a team and you have their gear or know their colors, you’d probably dress up according to go see a game. What about when you don’t know any of the teams and you don’t even know the rules of the game? What if you’re really just there for the people and the booze? I’d wear something neutral – I’m a wanderer, I have no ties to either team. Here, I’m wearing a t-shirt from Topman as a dress. I’ve paired that with a baseball hat to make it look even more sporty and platform heels for comfort. This is a look I’d also feel comfortable wearing to a house party, brunch or a barbecue. Definitely in my all-black go-to looks!
